Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Friday, August 4th, 2017

About one in three residents of the Augusta metropolitan area are over the age of 50 according to U.S. Census Bureau population estimates. To meet the needs of this growing segment of the population, AARP Georgia and the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library System have partnered together to offer the AARP Georgia Library Learning Series of free seminars focused on aging adults and their communities.

The first event will be a “Prepare to Care” brown bag workshop on Thursday, August 31, from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the Headquarters Library (823 Telfair St., Augusta). According to the AARP Public Policy Institute, over 1.3 million Georgians are caring for adult family members and friends or children who have disabilities. The Prepare to Care workshop is designed to provide these caregivers with very practical and essential information to improve their lives and the lives of their loved ones. This event is free and open to the public, but attendees must register in advance. To register or for more information, visit aarp.cvent.com/LibraryLearningAugusta or call 1-877-926-8300.

As stated by AARP Georgia Associate State Director Alice Bennett, “what we find as we talk with individual caregivers in the community is that many times they are not aware of the resources AARP provides. With this series of workshops we will give local caregivers the tools they need to take on one of the most important roles they will encounter during their life. Please come out, bring your bag lunch and learn five very practical steps that will assist you with being prepared to take care of your loved one.”
