Augusta University to Host Writers Series October 23rd

Augusta University welcomes renowned authors Patrick Phillips and Drew Lanham as the keynote speakers for the 2017 Sand Hill Writers Series. This free seminar will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 23 on the Summerville Campus in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Coffeehouse.

Lanham, a native of Edgefield, SC and an Alumni Distinguished Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Clemson University, is the author of “The Home Place”, a memoir of his experiences with nature, family, love, and black identity in the South.

Phillips, an award-winning author of three books of poetry and one of translation, is the author of the nonfiction piece “Blood at the Root: A Racial Cleansing in America”, which chronicles the story of Forsyth County, GA, once called the “whitest county in America.”

This event is sponsored by the university’s Department of English and Foreign Languages, Department of Biological Sciences, Jaguar Student Activities Committee, and the Georgia Humanities Council.
