Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society to be Housed at Augusta University

For nearly 30 years, the Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society has brought world-class performances to the Augusta area, and now the group is coming home to Augusta University.
On April 27, Dr. Elna Green, dean of the Pamplin College at Augusta University, and Quentin Kuyper, executive director of the Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society, announced the society will be located in the university’s Department of Music and will continue offering clinics and concerts.
“The unification of the Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society with Augusta University is very appropriate and organic,” said Kuyper.”This more formal union establishes a permanent home for one of the most important cultural organizations in the area, providing it with long-term stability, while simultaneously creating new possibilities for educational and musical programming.”
Green shared similar sentiments.
“This partnership also feels like a homecoming for the society’s namesake, Harry Jacobs. After all, he designed the university’s Maxwell Theatre as well as served as the founding chair of the university’s Department of Music,” said Green. “Harry’s legacy continues to impact the quality of musical education we provide at Augusta University. Our actions today both honor that legacy and help to secure its future.”
