The Richmond County School System, along with 37 Georgia school districts, has been awarded a Literacy for Learning, Living, and Leading in Georgia grant by the Georgia Department of Education. The goal of the L4GA initiative is to improve student literacy learning and the RCSS will receive over $1.2 million to support these efforts.

The RCSS was selected due to several factors, including a rigorous, focused plan for improving literacy
outcomes and active partnerships with local organizations, the CSRA Regional Education Service Agency,
and teacher preparation programs.

“Research shows the critical importance of literacy for all children. Through the use of our L4GA funds,
we will continue to provide supports for students as we work to prepare them for college and career,”
said Dr. Debbie Alexander, Associate Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction and Technology

“Ensuring all children are reading on grade level has been a focus of ours for the last several years and
we are excited about the new ways we can support student growth through the use of these grant funds,” said Dr. Angela Pringle, Superintendent of the Richmond County School System.
