Augusta will play host to the international sports scene as the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations takes the ring at The Historic Miller Theater on Saturday, August 25.  
 
The events will feature local kickboxing superstar, Adam “War” Poore, in the Stars and Stripes National Tournament and the Kickboxing Main Event featuring Team USA vs. Team Australia.  A special ceremony during the event will include Augusta Mayor, Hardie Davis, Jr., presenting an honorary title belt to a Team USA vs. Team Australia bout winner.
 
“Augusta is well known for sports tourism and for our ability to successfully host and support international sporting events.  As we continue to develop world class venues and sporting facilities, it is great to see community leaders like the team at Greubel’s Mixed Martial Arts work to bring groups to our city,” said Mayor Davis.
 
“As sports organizations like WAKO experience Augusta, the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Augusta Sports Council are able to make tournaments and events like this possible for groups of all sizes,” Davis added.
 
Winners of the Stars and Stripes National Tournament in Augusta will be considered for placement on the WAKO Team USA group moving forward for the next international tournament.
 
“Augusta has a rich boxing history and has successful professional boxers from many area gyms. With this event, Greubel’s is bringing a spotlight to local kickboxing talent and is offering the opportunity to compete in Augusta for a spot on an international team,” said Davis.
 
“We are glad to bring WAKO to Augusta and are ready to show the world the kickboxing talent that is in Augusta.  These kickboxers work hard, train hard and give a lot to compete. It’ll be a great event for them, for the kickboxing community and for Augusta,” said Mark Greubel.
