The Richmond County School System is proud to be a recipient of $455,217 from the National Math + Science Initiative’s College Readiness Program. Through a combination of student, teacher, and school supports, the program is designed to increase the number of students taking and earning qualifying scores in Advanced Placement Math, Science, and English courses. In Richmond County, the grant will fully fund the program at the Academy of Richmond County and, with a contribution from the RCSS, will fund programs at Cross Creek High School, Laney High School, and Westside High School. Utilizing this grant has allowed these four schools to add AP Computer Science courses and provided teacher training, with teachers from across the country, to support the increased rigor.
“This opportunity will certainly enhance our ability to prepare our students for success in college in STEM careers,” said RCSS Superintendent Dr. Angela Pringle. “We can now support students with well-prepared teachers as they accept the challenge to take the most rigorous courses in the nation. I am thankful for the support through Fort Gordon and the leadership from the National Math and Science Initiative. This is truly a game changer for our entire school district.”
