Columbia County Welcomes the 2018 Ed Headrick Disc Golf Hall of Fame Classic

The Professional Disc Golf Association and the International Disc Golf Center are pleased to announce that the 2018 Ed Headrick Disc Golf Hall of Fame Classic presented by REC TEC Grills will be held October 12-14 at the International Disc Golf Center, located in Wildwood Park in Appling, GA. The tournament is sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association as one of six premier events on the 2018 PDGA National Tour, presented by ZUCA and ProActive Disc Golf. The PDGA is the international governing body for the sport of disc golf and sanctions around 4,000 tournaments in all 50 states, 8 Canadian Provinces, and over 35 countries each year for professional and amateur disc golfers. The top professional disc golfers from around the Globe will compete in this tournament for not only the accolades that accompany the Hall of Fame Classic, but also the entire National Tour, as this event serves as the Tour Finale. A total cash purse of $35,000 is up for grabs as the Tour comes to a close in Appling next weekend. An additional 200+ amateur players will compete in a concurrent event at the same location. The tournament format will see competitors playing 3 rounds of 18 holes between Friday and Sunday. The leaders will begin final round play on Sunday, October 14 at approximately 1:00pm on the famed W.R. Jackson disc golf course at the IDGC. Admission to the event is free, although Wildwood Park charges a small fee to gain access to the park.

PDGA Director of Operations, Mike Downes states, “The PDGA is thrilled to culminate the National Tour at this facility once again in 2018. The IDGC Staff have made some significant changes to the complex this year, and we are excited to show them off to the World as the sport’s best compete for the titles of HOFC and 2018 National Tour Champion. We welcome the community to come out and witness the action as it unfolds!”

A disc golf putting clinic will be conducted from 6-7pm on Thursday, October 11 at the IDGC by two of the PDGA Tour’s top professional competitors, including the current Women’s World Champion, Paige Bjerkaas. There will also be a Disc Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, October 12 at 7:00pm, at which, three pioneers of the sport will be introduced into the coveted Hall of Fame. The clinic and Hall of Fame induction ceremony are sponsored by the Professional Disc Golf Association and are free to anyone interested in learning about the history of the sport of disc golf or receiving instruction (park fees apply).
