Get Ready to Tee Off Fore Tatas

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Wednesday, October 10th, 2018

The Apartment Association of Greater Augusta is prepping for its annual charity golf tournament, Tee Off Fore Tatas, that is only one week away on Oct. 12. This year’s tournament will take place for the first time at Mount Vintage Golf Course.

“We were nervous about having to change our venue last minute from Jones Creek to Mount Vintage, but we could not be more pleased,” said Shelly Martin, event chair. “The course looks amazing and the staff has been great to work with so far. We also now have the advantage of 27 holes instead of just 18, so we were able to open up spots for more teams! We are really getting excited!”

Event registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m. The tournament will wrap up at 4 p.m. after awards are distributed.

The tournament raises awareness and support for the Georgia Cancer Center at Augusta University to fund breast cancer research. Over $80,000 has been raised for the center in the last eight years.

“Last year we raised over $22,000 for breast cancer research at the Georgia Cancer Center, and we hope to do even better this year,” said Martin. “The main objective is to have a good time while showing support in our community in the fight to cure breast cancer.”

Tee Off Fore Tatas is open to the public and welcomes players of all skill levels. Registration costs $150 for single players and $500 for teams of four. Sponsorship levels start at $100. Donations of any amount are also appreciated.

Golfers have the chance to participate in several contests, including the longest drive and closest to the pin. On a par-5 hole, players can donate to shoot their ball out of a golf gun. On one of the par-3 holes, the prize for hitting a hole-in-one is a car from Taylor Hyundai.

“So many businesses that participated in years past have been spreading the word about how much fun this event is,” said Martin. “It has really gained a lot of momentum.”

American Painting & Renovations Inc., ATC Development, South State Bank and Walton Communities sponsor this year’s tournament at the corporate level.

The Georgia Cancer Center is a multi-disciplinary academic cancer center whose mission is to reduce the burden of cancer in Georgia and across the globe through superior care, innovation and education.
