Richard Wiese & Born to Explore
Wednesday, February 6th, 2019
Richard Wiese is the current president of The Explorers Club and host and executive producer of the Emmy-winning PBS TV series Born to Explore.
If you aren’t familiar with Born to Explore, Richard journeys to unpublicized corners of the globe to celebrate the wildlife, diverse cultures and natural wonders of the planet. Last season, the production crew traveled to Borneo to track orangutans in the wild; in Tanzania, Wiese joined the primitive Hadzabe tribe in a hunt to feed its members.
Before Richard was a globe-trotting television host and president of an international society, he was an actor and model who has worked with Brooke Shields, performed in skits on “Saturday Night Live” and has made People magazine’s most eligible bachelors list.
Richard has received numerous other honors, including a Genesis Award, an Associated Press Folio Award, a Golden Halo Award and the 2012 Walter Cronkite Award for his contributions to journalism and exploration. He is the author of Born to Explore: How To Be A Backyard Adventurer (Harper Collins 2009). He was honored at the 2005 Boy Scout National Jamboree where he addressed 90,000 people and had a camp named after him.
