Elliott Davis, a leading business solutions firm with nine offices across the Southeast, announces that Paul Simpson has been hired for the newly formed position of data scientist. He is based in the Greenville, South Carolina, headquarters and will lead data research and analysis for the entire company.

“As the professional financial services industry continues to evolve, the need for innovative, data-driven solutions that add value and enhance financial and operational performance has never been greater,” says Rick Davis, CEO of Elliott Davis. “Paul brings a wealth of experience in collecting and analyzing data for companies in a wide range of industries, and his hiring reaffirms our commitment to being a future-focused solutions provider that challenges conventions and seeks new, boundary-breaking ways to approach everything we do.”

In his role as data scientist, Simpson will gather and mine data sets to gain insights that can be used to strengthen business decision-making, financial management, risk management and internal audit. Specifically, he’ll utilize descriptive and predictive analytics to help the firm and its clients identify business challenges, then conduct exploratory data analysis and provide visualizations that can ultimately be used to yield enhanced outcomes.

Simpson will also apply machine learning tools to build better forecast models and predict future trends, while uncovering areas for process improvements that can increase efficiency and better manage risk for the firm and its clients.

“We take an intentional, holistic approach to preparing for the future,” says Bob Jamison, chief innovation officer of Elliott Davis. “By leveraging new technologies and the power of data, we’ll be able to make business decisions more quickly and accurately than ever before. This will prove invaluable as we anticipate and adapt to marketplace disruptions, identify and capitalize on opportunities, and deliver more robust outcomes for clients and the firm alike.”

Prior to joining Elliott Davis, Simpson served in a variety of data professional roles in industry and government, most recently as a data scientist for Northrop Grumman Corporation. In that position, he worked on a variety of high-profile projects, ranging from developing Tableau dashboards for his industry sector to predictive analytics for business development. Previously, he worked for state government agencies in Austin, Texas, focusing on systems analysis, web development, analytics reporting and machine learning.

Simpson earned a bachelor of science in information systems from Thomas Edison State University and a master of science in data analytics from Southern New Hampshire University.
