U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and David Perdue, R-Ga., praised Steven D. Grimberg at a Senate hearing to consider Grimberg’s nomination to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Grimberg was nominated on April 4 by President Donald Trump to fill the Atlanta-based judicial vacancy.

Isakson introduced Grimberg at his Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing today. Isakson highlighted Grimberg’s strong record of public service and successful development of a cybercrime unit as part of the U.S. attorney’s office for the same judicial district for which he has been nominated to serve as judge.

“[Grimberg] served as a federal prosecutor at the Department of Justice for 12 years, most recently as deputy chief of economic crimes at the U.S. attorney’s office for the Northern District of Georgia,” said Isakson. “While there, he developed and led a noteworthy, promising and very productive [unit] on cybercrime… which prosecuted, disrupted and otherwise dismantled criminal cybercrime organizations around the world and in Atlanta.”

Isakson also pointed to the law degree Grimberg earned “with distinction” from “one of the most distinguished schools in the United States, Emory University in Atlanta.” Grimberg also serves as an adjunct professor at the Emory Law School.

“He’s dedicated to his job, tremendously accomplished at his job, and twice received the department’s outstanding performance award from the Department of Justice,” Isakson continued. “He’s well recognized by his peers, and I look forward to him being approved to the Northern District of Georgia.”

Perdue submitted testimony for the record, emphasizing Grimberg’s distinguished legal career and focus on prosecuting cybercrimes.

“I’m delighted to introduce Mr. Steven Grimberg, an outstanding Georgian who has been nominated by President Trump to be a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Georgia,” said Perdue. “A first-generation American and proud graduate of Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Mr. Grimberg has distinguished himself through his extensive service in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, where he spearheaded the development of a Cyber Crime Unit to prosecute major cyber-criminal organizations around the world. I’m confident Mr. Grimberg will continue to serve Georgia with integrity in this new role.”

Grimberg has been nominated to fill the vacancy on the bench left by Judge Richard Story, who has taken senior status on the Court. A committee vote to move Grimberg’s nomination forward to a confirmation vote by the full Senate has not yet been scheduled.
