Columbia County Chamber of Commerce: Vote Yes for the Future! – TSPLOST
Friday, March 6th, 2020
The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce and its Board of Directors have announced their support for the renewal of the county’s penny sales tax for CSRA TSPLOST (Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) for 2023-2032.
“The Transportation SPLOST is a 13 county regional vote to build or improve identified transportation projects. The Chamber believes a sales tax is the fairest way to fund the continued need of infrastructure in our fast growing area.” said Tammy Shepherd, President/CEO of the Chamber. “Connectivity and quality of life for our businesses and residents is a major attractor for Columbia County and the CSRA.”
The TSPLOST continuation, a one-cent sales tax on $1, will be used to fund many major road widening projects in Columbia County to include Hereford Farm Road and Hardy McManus Road as well as the Euchee Creek Greenway and sidewalks. Funds may also be used for intersection improvements, repaving, and safety issues related to road improvements.
Under the current TSPLOST collection, 2013-2022, Columbia County will benefit from 8 major road projects. The projects already completed include Riverwatch Parkway, Robinson Ave, and Wrightsboro Road while Flowing Wells Road, Fury’s Ferry Road, Lewiston Road, Horizon South Parkway, and bridge work at the I-20 Harlem interchange are in design or pre-engineering stages. Several of these projects will break ground by summer.
