Augusta’s February Unemployment Rate Sees Slight Increase

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Augusta recorded an unemployment rate of 3.8 percent in February, up one-tenth over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 3.9 percent.

“Georgia continues to thrive, fueled by a powerhouse workforce and savvy economic investments,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “For the past 48 months and counting, Georgia has continued to outshine the nation with low unemployment and high-quality jobs. Our regional unemployment numbers are a testament to this remarkable track record of success and Georgia’s ability to drive economic opportunity across virtually every corner of the state.”  

The labor force increased in Augusta by 1,773 and ended the month with 265,671. That number went up by 198 when compared to February of 2023.

Augusta finished the month with 255,688 employed residents. That number increased by 1,504 over-the-month and rose by 660 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Augusta ended February with 244,500 jobs. That number increased by 700 from January to February and was down by 800 when compared to this time last year.

In February, initial unemployment claims decreased by 943 (-52%) in Augusta. When you compare February 2024 claims to February 2023, claims were down by 111 (-11%).
