Augusta's April Unemployment Rate Drops to 3.3%

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Augusta recorded an unemployment rate of 3.3 percent in April, down four-tenths over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 3.0 percent.

"From the state to the local level, Georgia is focused on creating an environment where businesses can thrive, and everyday workers can find good jobs and build better lives.”

The labor force increased in Augusta by 2,791 and ended the month with 271,058. That number went up by 3,348 when compared to April of 2023.

Augusta finished the month with 261,997 employed residents, an all-time high. That number increased by 3,694 over-the-month and rose by 2,356 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Augusta ended April with 250,400 jobs, an all-time high. That number increased by 4,600 from March to April and was up by 1,700 when compared to this time last year.

In April, initial unemployment claims increased by 182 (27%) in Augusta. When you compare April 2024 claims to April 2023, claims were down by 107 (-11%).
