Georgia Regional Commissions Report Decline in April Unemployment Rates

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson announced today that all of Georgia’s Regional Commissions reported declining unemployment rates for April.

Atlanta Regional Commission

  • The unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 2.9 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.7 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was down 13,906 over-the-month and up 52,225 over-the-year, to 2,705,169.

  • The number of employed was down 6,193 over-the-month and up 45,500 over-the-year, to 2,627,738.

  • Initial claims were up 1,058 (12%) over-the-month and down 1,332 (-12%) over-the-year, to 9,958.

Central Savannah River

  • The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 3.6 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.4 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 2,009 over-the-month and up 2,982 over-the-year, to 212,860.

  • The number of employed was up 2,604 over-the-month and up 2,485 over-the-year, to 205,231.

  • Initial claims were up 195 (25%) over-the-month and down 120 (-11%) over-the-year, to 989.

 

Coastal Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down five-tenths to 2.5 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.5 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was down 1,164 over-the-month and up 7,163 over-the-year, to 355,371.

  • The number of employed was up 441 over-the-month and up 6,841 over-the-year, to 346,328, an all-time high.

  • Initial claims were up 255 (30%) over-the-month and up 10 (1%) over-the-year, to 1,107.

Georgia Mountains

  • The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 2.3 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.1 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was down 677 over-the-month and up 8,213 over-the-year, to 254,153.

  • The number of employed was up 579 over-the-month and up 7,757 over-the-year, to 248,426.

  • Initial claims were up 2 (0%) over-the-month, and down 29 (-5%) over-the-year, to 608. 

Heart of Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 3.2 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.2 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 322 over-the-month and up 2,209 over-the-year, to 120,702.

  • The number of employed was up 816 over-the-month and up 2,065 over-the-year, to 116,818.

  • Initial claims were up 219 (51%) over-the-month, and down 509 (-44%) over-the-year, to 646. 

Middle Georgia
  • The unemployment rate was down five-tenths to 3.0 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.9 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was down 971 over-the-month and up 3,041 over-the-year, to 217,536.

  • The number of employed was up 39 over-the-month and up 2,695 over-the-year, to 210,916.

  • Initial claims were up 184 (28%) over-the-month and down 104 (-11%) over-the-year, to 833.

Northeast Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down five-tenths to 2.6 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.4 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was down 1,487 over-the-month and up 9,743 over-the-year, to 337,964.

  • The number of employed was up 42 over-the-month and up 8,862 over-the-year, to 329,129, an all-time high.

  • Initial claims were up 160 (21%) over-the-month and down 81 (-8%) over-the-year, to 923.

Northwest Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 2.8 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.8 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was down 1,736 over-the-month and up 8,976 over-the-year, to 446,111.

  • The number of employed was down 322 over-the-month and up 8,463 over-the-year, to 433,522.

  • Initial claims were up 989 (54%) over-the-month and down 1,210 (-30%) over-the-year, to 2,806. 

River Valley

  • The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 3.5 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.5 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was down 64 over-the-month and up 2,355 over-the-year, to 145,236.

  • The number of employed was up 503 over-the-month and up 2,238 over-the-year, to 140,170.

  • Initial claims were up 11 (2%) over-the-month and down 136 (-20%) over-the-year, to 555.

Southern Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down five-tenths to 3.0 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.8 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 246 over-the-month and up 945 over-the-year, to 179,981.

  • The number of employed was up 1,152 over-the-month and up 655 over-the-year, to 174,670.

  • Initial claims were up 172 (32%) over-the-month and up 11 (2%) over-the-year, to 708. 

Southwest Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down five-tenths to 3.1 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.9 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 1,330 over-the-month and up 1,179 over-the-year, to 146,775.

  • The number of employed was up 1,924 over-the-month and up 848 over-the-year, to 142,170.

  • Initial claims were up 133 (30%) over-the-month and up 16 (3%) over-the-year, to 575.

Three Rivers

  • The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 2.7 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.6 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was down 1,692 over-the-month and up 4,924 over-the-year, to 263,322.

  • The number of employed was down 624 over-the-month and up 4,568 over-the-year, to 256,246.

  • Initial claims were up 178 (22%) over-the-month and down 145 (-13%) over-the-year, to 972.
