Golden Harvest Food Bank and the American Red Cross Mobilize to Support Communities Impacted by Hurricane Debby
Wednesday, August 7th, 2024
Golden Harvest Food Bank, in close collaboration with the American Red Cross, is ramping up efforts to support communities affected by Hurricane Debby.
"In times of crisis, our community's resilience shines through. By working together, we can ensure that those affected by Hurricane Debby receive the essential support they need. Our Produce Rescue Center will serve as a key hub for distributing food and relief supplies where they are needed most," stated Amy Breitmann, President & CEO of Golden Harvest Food Bank.
Golden Harvest Food Bank and the American Red Cross have been in close communication and will be using the Food Bank’s new Produce Rescue Center as a staging area to organize disaster relief efforts. Starting today, the facility will be used to store and sort food, water, and other support items to aid residents in South Carolina and Georgia.
“One of the things I’m most grateful for in our community is the overwhelming support we receive from our partners in Augusta,” said Susan Landreth-Everitt, Executive Director for the East Central Georgia Chapter of the Red Cross. “Golden Harvest Food Bank’s partnership will help the Red Cross further serve residents impacted by this storm.”
Both organizations are closely monitoring the situation and considering the potential impact on upcoming events, including the Grand Opening event of the Produce Rescue Center next week. The priority remains on providing immediate relief to those in need.
