Augusta Technical College Foundation is proud to announce the election of James Heffner to its esteemed Board of Trustees. Mr. Heffner, who is currently a commercial loan officer at SRP Federal Credit Union, is a longtime supporter of Augusta Tech, having served on its Board of Directors for nine years
Originally from Toledo, Mr. Heffner attended George Mason University and Ohio University on basketball scholarships, ultimately graduating from OU with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance. He launched his corporate career in New York City with The Chase Manhattan Bank where he helped manage the bank’s $3.5 billion investment portfolio. In 2003, he relocated to Augusta to continue pursuing career goals and raise a family.
“Augusta Tech offers me the opportunity to continue advocating for technical colleges and students alike,” stated Mr. Heffner. “Growing up in Toledo, Ohio, I saw firsthand how hard my parents and relatives worked to provide for their family, often just to make ends meet. I was always told that a good post-secondary education was the key to making a sustainable living wage. ATC offers young people and adults the opportunity to get a quality education at a fraction of the cost in a two-year window. I’m a first-generation college graduate in my family. I know the value of education. I believe everyone deserves a chance to get a good education and the dignity that comes along with being able to make a living for yourself.”
Mr. Heffner has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry with a focus on commercial investment, commercial lending and business development to drive annual revenue. Since relocating to Augusta, he has served in Chair and/or Vice Chair roles on the boards of Leadership Augusta, Augusta Downtown Development Authority, Burn Foundation of America, Episcopal Day School, and Walton Options for Independent Living.
“Mr. Heffner has been a longtime supporter of Augusta Tech through his work on the Board of Directors. We are deeply honored that he will continue to strengthen the College and its ties to the philanthropic community by serving on the Foundation’s Board of Trustees,” stated Augusta Technical College President Dr. Jermaine Whirl.
