Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, September 19th, 2024

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Georgia Shift will sponsor speaker Attorney Kayla J. Bumpus for Constitution Day in partnership with the Humanities Department at Paine College in the Gilbert Lambuth Memorial Chapel on the college’s campus.

Attorney Bumpus specializes in criminal defense, personal injury, and family law serving the metro Atlanta area. Most notably, Attorney Bumpus previously served as legal counsel for the prosecution witness Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland, in what is being referred to as the “trial of the century” in Atlanta; a trial of the rap artist Young Thug and YSL.

Constitution Day was established in 2004 to encourage people to learn about the Constitution signed September 17, 1787.  Paine College’s Department of Humanities invites all students and members of the community to attend and participate in this event that will encourage voter education and engagement.

“This is an opportunity for our students to connect with and hear from someone they may relate to, due to her involvement in a popular rapper’s case in Atlanta, and hopefully understand the importance of being registered to vote, and exercising that right”, says Professor Kimberly Baxter, of Paine College.

This event is free and open to the public.
