Club Car Teams Up with Martinez Elementary School for 5th Grade STEM Design Program
Monday, November 18th, 2024
Club Car, a global leader in innovation and design for golf cars, low-speed utility vehicles and personal-use transportation, rolled vehicles into Martinez Elementary School today as part of a yearlong STEM Design Program partnership for 5th grade science students. Since 2018, Club Car employees have worked with Martinez Elementary School faculty on a program to show students how the math, science and language skills they learn today actually apply in real world settings.
“There’s nothing like watching a child light up when what they learn in class comes to life,” said Carrie Harrison, Director of Custom Solutions at Club Car. “During our monthly STEM sessions, the students leave excited about careers in engineering, welding, finance and marketing which is what this partnership is all about.”
The year-long initiative allows students and Club Car employees to spend quality time engaged in STEM based educational activities that help the students understand how people use Club Car vehicles and explore the variety of careers in the cross-section of manufacturing, golf and engineering industries. Today, Club Car vehicles provided the lesson as students worked with the Club Car volunteers, school staff and their design team partners to take notes, sketch and advance their design projects.
“This is the most exciting day,” said Harrison about the students’ interaction with the Club Car vehicles. “Watching the students smiling with tablets and measuring tools, asking engaging questions and sharing plans to bring the next big idea to our product teams is priceless.”
Near the end of the school year, the students will take part in a pitch – style competition to share models of their innovation and marketing plans with Club Car engineers and leaders.
