The Georgia Historical Society (GHS) is pleased to announce Hyundai as a title sponsor for the 2024-2025 Georgia History Festival. The Festival is GHS’s signature K-12 educational program, reaching more than 250,000 students statewide from September through April each year.
“Hyundai is proud to support the impactful work of the Georgia Historical Society to preserve the rich history of Georgia,” said Brandon Ramirez, director, corporate social responsibility, Hyundai Motor North America. “Our partnership reflects our commitment to advancing knowledge and cultivating a deeper understanding of the places where we live and work to build stronger community connections.”
“On behalf of the Georgia Historical Society and the people we serve, I want to express my deep appreciation for this significant investment in our educational mission,” said W. Todd Groce, President and CEO, Georgia Historical Society. “Thanks to the generosity of Hyundai, thousands of Georgia students will be able to study the history of our state and nation and thereby be better prepared to meet the challenges of the future. We are truly grateful for this new educational partnership with one of Georgia’s newest corporate citizens.”
Generous support from Hyundai and other Festival sponsors and donors provides for a variety of public programs, exhibits, events, and educational resources that bring history to life for students of all ages. The Festival encourages all Georgians to explore the richness and diversity of our state’s past through both online and in-person programming.
The Georgia History Festival includes popular events such as the Colonial Faire and Muster, a living-history program held at the Wormsloe State Historic Site; Super Museum Sunday, in which more than 100 Georgia museums and historic sites open their doors to the public for free; and the elegant Trustees Gala, honoring exemplary Georgians whose accomplishments reflect the highest ideals of Georgia’s founding Trustees.
Each year, GHS selects a significant topic in Georgia’s history as the focus of the Festival’s educational programs and resources. This year, in conjunction with GHS’s US250 commemoration, the focus of study is “‘The Reality of Our Liberty’: The First Amendment and Freedom of the Press.”
Aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence, this year’s topic will support students’ understanding of the role that a press free from governmental control has historically played in informing the American people, as a marketplace for competing ideas, and in holding the government and our leaders accountable to those who have elected them.
The Festival culminates with the Trustees Gala on Saturday, April 26, 2025. GHS and the Office of the Governor will induct Walter M. “Sonny” Deriso, Jr., Banker, Attorney, and Civic Leader, and Craig Menear, Former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Home Depot, as its newest Georgia Trustees, the highest honor the state of Georgia can confer.
