Augusta Canal Repairs to Take Months and Cost Millions

A deputy marshal has been stationed on the Augusta Canal, where more than three miles of trail remains closed to the public as the city fixes the damage from Helene. 

 “The next phase is to actually cut the trees that are leaning and hanging over the towpath. That’s the reason it’s closed still. We’ve asked people to stay off of it, there’s a liability there,” said Utilities Department Director Wes Byne.
