Georgia DOT Installs 4-way Stop at McDuffie County Intersection
Thursday, December 5th, 2024
The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has implemented a 4-way stop configuration at State Route 17 and the Thomson Bypass, just south of Thomson.
Georgia DOT's long-term plan for this intersection is a roundabout. The contractor constructing the roundabout has been given the notice to proceed. To help crews safely perform work, we are implementing a 4-way stop at this intersection for the duration of the project.
On Monday, December 2, crews began changing the configuration of the intersection. New stop signs and rumble strips have been installed on SR 17. In addition, the lane configuration of SR 17 and theThomson Bypass/Wire Rd. has been adjusted approaching the intersection. Existing stop signs on the Thomson Bypass/Wire Rd. will remain.
The roundabout is currently scheduled to be complete in the spring of 2026.
