Columbia County Property Damage Assessment Following Hurricane Helene

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, January 15th, 2025

Columbia County’s Chief Appraiser, Morgan Aune, urges property owners impacted by Hurricane Helene to report any damage to their homes as assessments continue throughout the county.

As part of the county’s annual property valuation process, Aune emphasized the importance of residents contacting the assessor’s office to ensure accurate damage assessments. "We are in the process of evaluating properties as of January 1st, and while we've conducted initial assessments, there may still be homes that were missed due to inaccessibility or unseen damage,” said Aune.

Property owners are encouraged to reach out if their property was affected by the storm, particularly if they have not yet been assessed. Providing estimates from contractors or insurance adjusters will also assist in determining accurate property values.

To report damage, residents can:

  • Call the Tax Assessor’s Office at (706) 312-7474

  • Email [email protected]

  • Visit the Tax Assessor’s office: 630 Ronald Reagan Drive, Building C, First Floor

The Tax Assessor’s office will be assessing properties in Columbia County for the next six to eight weeks.
