Helms College Augusta Graduation Ceremony Announced for Saturday
Friday, January 24th, 2025
Helms College proudly announces its Augusta Graduation Ceremony, set to take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at The Salvation Army Kroc Center, located at 1833 Broad St., Augusta, GA. This milestone event will honor the hard work, perseverance, and accomplishments of our career-driven students.
We are honored to welcome respected business leader Derek May, President of Azalea Investments and Goodwill board member, as this year’s keynote speaker. With a diverse background spanning technology, media, hospitality, and commercial real estate, May has played a pivotal role in shaping Augusta’s business landscape.
May began his career in technology after earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Augusta University and quickly advanced through leadership positions at Morris Communications. As President of Morris Publishing Group, he oversaw operations across the United States before transitioning to his current role at Azalea Investments in 2018. Under his leadership, Azalea Investments owns and operates the Augusta Marriott & Convention Center, Azalea Outdoor Advertising, and several landmark commercial properties, including the Wellstar Building at 699 Broad Street—home to the Pinnacle Club and Edgar’s Above Broad, both applied learning venues for Helms College.
May’s deep commitment to economic development and community impact aligns with Helms College’s mission of empowering students through education and career advancement. His leadership, vision, and entrepreneurial spirit will undoubtedly inspire graduates as they embark on their next journey.
James K. Stiff, President of Helms College, will also address the graduates, recognizing their perseverance and commitment to their future. “On behalf of the entire college, I extend congratulations and well wishes to our students on marking this important milestone.”
Graduates from several Helms College programs, including Culinary Arts and Health Services, will be honored for their accomplishments. Faculty, staff, family, and friends will gather to celebrate their success and the bright futures ahead.
Media representatives are invited to attend the ceremony and speak with graduates, faculty, and keynote speakers.
