Richmond County Board of Education Introduces Dr. Malinda Cobb as Interim Superintendent of Schools

Through a unanimous vote, the Richmond County Board of Education selected Dr. Malinda
Cobb, associate superintendent of academic services, as interim superintendent of the Richmond County School
System (RCSS) during a called board meeting on Thursday, Dec. 5. Cobb officially begins her new role today.
"I am deeply grateful to the board and our dedicated staff for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading the
Richmond County School System during this important transition,” Cobb said. “As we enter the new year, my
focus will remain on ensuring stability, supporting our educators and staff, and maintaining the high standards
of excellence we hold for our students and community.”
Cobb has served on the superintendent’s cabinet for more than three years. In her most recent role as associate
superintendent of academic services, she oversaw the district’s teaching and learning department, accountability
and federal programs, Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE), information technology,
professional learning, teacher development, school improvement, and community foundations and partnerships.
She has worked at RCSS for over 20 years, beginning as a teacher at T.W. Josey Comprehensive High School,
where she was named the RCSS Teacher of the Year. She later served as principal of Goshen Elementary
School and the Academy of Richmond County before transitioning to district leadership.
Cobb holds a doctorate from Georgia Southern University, a specialist degree from Augusta State University, a
master’s degree from Georgia State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Newberry College in South
Carolina.
