RCSS Student Selected as One of Two Georgia Delegates for U.S. Senate Youth Program
Wednesday, February 12th, 2025
Jaylin Deshawn Hillsman, a senior at A.R. Johnson Health Science and
Engineering Magnet High School, was selected as one of only two students in Georgia to
serve as a delegate for the 2025 United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). Jaylin will
represent Georgia during USSYP Washington Week, held March 1-8, 2025.
Each year, the USSYP selects two students from each state to participate in an intensive
weeklong program in Washington, D.C., where they will engage with national leaders,
including U.S. senators, the president, a Supreme Court justice, and key officials from federal
agencies. In addition to the experience, Hillsman will receive a $10,000 college scholarship to
support his undergraduate studies.
Dr. Emily Driggers, principal of A.R. Johnson, says, “Jaylin’s dedication and excellence in the
areas of leadership, academics, and civic engagement are truly commendable. I have no
doubt that he will represent A.R. Johnson and the state of Georgia with distinction during his
participation in this program.”
Hillsman serves as Senior Class President at A.R. Johnson and is an active leader in HOSA
Future Health Professionals, Key Club, and the student ambassador program. As captain of
the school’s tennis team, he played a key role in securing a regional championship. Hillsman
also leads school tours, participated in anti-bullying initiatives, and worked to enhance student
involvement at A.R. Johnson. Hillsman plans to study political science in college, with future
aspirations in business administration and community development.
The United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962, is sponsored by the U.S.
Senate and fully funded by The Hearst Foundations. Its mission is to cultivate a deeper
understanding of the American political process and inspire students to pursue careers in
public service.
