Augusta Reports a 4.3% Unemployment Rate for January

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Augusta recorded an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent in January, an increase of one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4.0 percent.

"While job growth has faced challenges this month, key industries across the state continue to offer opportunities for hardworking Georgians. Even with the rise in unemployment, our mission remains clear—helping Georgia’s workers find and keep meaningful employment in every corner of our state.”
The labor force in Augusta increased by 847, ending the month with 266,447 workers. This number represents an increase of 62 compared to January 2024.
Augusta finished the month with 254,977 employed residents. This was an increase of 468 from the previous month, though it declined by 743 compared to the same time last year.
The number of jobs in Augusta stood at 244,900 in December. This marked a decrease of 3,000 jobs from December to January, but an increase of 1,100 jobs when compared to the same time last year.
In January, initial unemployment claims decreased by 140 in Augusta. When comparing January 2024 claims to January 2025, claims were down by 542, totaling 1,288.
