Augusta Housing and Development Director Resigns

Augusta’s Housing and Development Director, Hawthorne Welcher, has resigned, multiple sources have confirmed to NewsChannel 6’s George Eskola.
Last month, Welcher was placed on leave after the federal government told the city it would have to return $6.5 million dollars in federal rental assistance money that was not used. The city has ordered an audit of the department and nine different programs.
