Augusta’s Unemployment Rate Drops in April

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Augusta recorded an unemployment rate of 3.7% in April, down five-tenths over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.6%.

“This April, unemployment rates dropped across every region of Georgia,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “When we connect Georgians with meaningful work, we're putting food on tables, creating stability for individuals and families, and building an economy where our children can see their future—right here at home. This is how we grow a stronger Georgia—one job, one family, one community at a time.”

The labor force in Augusta increased by 3,496 and ended the month at 272,020. That number decreased by 353 compared to April 2024.

Augusta finished the month with 262,020 employed residents. That number increased by 4,865 over the month and declined by 678 compared to the same time a year ago.

Augusta ended April with an all-time high of 252,200 jobs. That number increased by 5,900 over the month and increased by 700 compared to this time last year.

In April, initial unemployment claims increased by 59 over the month and decreased by 171 when compared to the same month a year ago, totaling 681.
