Columbia County Makes Application to the State Library System to Become a Single County Region
Wednesday, May 7th, 2025
The Columbia County Board of Commissioners has received numerous inquiries suggesting that the Columbia County Library may be leaving the state library system to become an independent entity. The Commission wishes to clarify that Columbia County will remain in the state system.
While the idea of becoming independent of the state was an option, it is not the option that will be pursued. After careful consideration, the County has decided to withdraw from the Greater Clarks Hill Library Region to become a Single County Region within the state library system. By doing so, the Columbia County Library will have greater autonomy to address the unique needs and preferences of our residents, while continuing to receive state funding and access to all current state library system resources.
The Board of Commissioners understands the importance of providing quality library services and resources to our citizens and believes that staying with the state system as a Single County Region will allow the County to continue to do so effectively.
The County has initiated the process of becoming a Single County Region and has received the necessary approvals from the state. This move will be effective January 1, 2026.
