Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025

The United Way of the CSRA is thrilled to announce the return of Book Bash, a vibrant community event dedicated to promoting literacy and nurturing a love for reading in children and families of all ages. The event will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at The HUB for Community Innovation.

The mission of Book Bash is to provide personal summer reading libraries to underserved children throughout the Greater Augusta area and beyond. With a focus on educational engagement and free access to books, this event aims to inspire a lifelong passion for reading and help build a stronger, more connected community.

“Literacy is the foundation of a thriving community. Book Bash is a celebration of stories, learning, and togetherness—a chance for us to connect and grow through books,” said Cheryl Odom, Community Impact Specialist Program Manager at United Way of the CSRA.

Book Bash is proudly presented by United Way of the CSRA, in collaboration with Augusta University Harris Literacy Center, RISE Augusta, and AmeriCorps VISTA. This year, the goal is to distribute 1,500 free book bags, each filled with 5–10 age-appropriate books, depending on the volume of community donations.

Event Highlights

Book Bag Giveaway: Children ages 0–17 will receive a free book bag filled with books tailored to their age

group.

Free Book Stations: Books for all ages—children and adults—available while supplies last.

Interactive Activities: Enjoy games, crafts, and fun, literacy-based experiences.

Story Time Sessions: Live readings of beloved children's books throughout the day.

This year’s Book Bash is generously sponsored by SRP Federal Credit Union and Wellstar MCG, whose support ensures the event remains free and accessible to families throughout the region.
