VITA Program Delivers Crucial Tax Services to Residents During 2024 Season
Tuesday, June 24th, 2025
United Way of the CSRA is proud to announce the success of its 2024 tax season Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, made possible through the generous funding provided by Wells Fargo. This year, the program offered free, IRS-certified tax preparation services to eligible residents across the CSRA, helping individuals and families maximize refunds, reduce stress, and improve their financial stability.
During the 2024 tax season, the VITA program provided essential support to residents across the CSRA, filing a total of 101 federal and state tax returns. The program helped return $66,656 in refunds to the community, while saving families an estimated $21,600 in tax preparation fees. The average adjusted gross income of the clients assisted was $29,911, reflecting the program’s impact on low to moderate-income households.
“We’re grateful to Wells Fargo for their continued support of the VITA Program and their commitment to empowering our community,” said Angela Collins, Director of Community Impact. “Together, we’re not only helping people file their taxes—we’re helping them build a stronger financial future.”
The success of this tax season’s VITA program was made possible by the dedication of local volunteers. IRS-trained volunteers successfully completed certification and contributed a combined 195 volunteer hours, which played a critical role in helping clients accurately file their taxes and better understand their financial situations. Beyond tax preparation, the program helped to foster a strong sense of community engagement and service. Volunteers gained valuable experience, and clients received more than just assistance—they left empowered with greater financial knowledge and confidence.
The VITA program continues to serve as a vital bridge to financial resilience for residents of the CSRA. By offering personalized support and trusted guidance, participants not only received help with their tax filings but also gained confidence and knowledge that will benefit them long after tax season.
