First Friday Reception at Augusta & Co of "People" Show
Wednesday, July 30th, 2025
"People," a solo exhibition featuring artworks by Augusta-based artist Rhian Swain, is now on display. This showcase offers a diverse collection of recent and archived works from Rhian's extensive career and her ongoing relationship with the Greater Augusta Arts Council. Her renowned "Festival People" series has become synonymous with the annual Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival, held in downtown Augusta, GA. Rhian draws inspiration from the human figure, bringing the vivacious qualities of the human spirit to life through her bold and unique paintings.
In 2023, Rhian was inducted into the National Association of Women Artists and held three major exhibits in Augusta, GA. These included a show at Sacred Heart Cultural Center, "21st Century Goddesses" at the Ellis and Anne Johnson Gallery, and a three-month showing of her traveling exhibition, "Breaking the Barriers: Women Who Impacted the Arts," at the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History. This impactful series of paintings was partially funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The exhibit has garnered critical acclaim and is set to continue its tour for several more years. Currently, her show titled "A Thousand Words" is on view at the Laney Museum through August 31st.
"People" is on view at the Augusta & Co. Gallery, located in Downtown Augusta, GA at 1010 Broad Street. The exhibit is free and open to the public from June 26 to October 2, 2025, Monday through Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. An opening reception will be held on August 1, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
