A new business on Broad Street is making waves in downtown Augusta by addressing a long-standing issue: access to fresh food. The Downtown Corner Store, opened two weeks ago by Augusta native Mark Coburn, is bringing grocery essentials to an area often described as a food desert.

Modeled after a bodega or mini-market, the store offers fresh produce, pantry staples, and everyday necessities—items that residents previously had to travel miles to find. Coburn says the idea came from watching neighbors struggle to reach larger grocery chains
