Groundbreaking Begins for Girl Scout Camp Tanglewood Repairs Following Hurricane Helene

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, November 18th, 2025

On Thursday, November 20, work officially begins to rebuild Camp Tanglewood, a cherished part of the Augusta community and a longtime home for Girl Scouts across Georgia. The camp suffered significant damage during Hurricane Helene, impacting cabins, program areas, and gathering spaces.

For decades, Camp Tanglewood has provided a place where girls develop confidence, leadership skills, and lifelong friendships through outdoor experiences and hands-on learning. The start of construction marks a major milestone in restoring this historic property and ensuring it continues to serve future generations of Girl Scouts.

Repairs will focus on restoring key camp facilities while introducing new features intentionally designed to reflect what today’s girls need to thrive. Among the most exciting additions will be a Girl Scout DreamLab, a creative and collaborative space that blends innovation, leadership, STEM, and opportunities for girls and the wider community. The Girl Scout DreamLab will be open to the public.

Camp Tanglewood holds a special place in the hearts of so many. Seeing progress begin is both hopeful and inspiring. It’s the first step in bringing back a place that means so much to Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia girls, volunteers, and families.

The rebuilding effort represents a major investment in the future of girls and the Augusta community. Community support remains vital, as donations will directly contribute to the restoration and improvement of camp facilities — from cabins and trails to program centers and the new Girl Scout DreamLab. Each contribution helps ensure that Camp Tanglewood continues to be a place where girls grow in courage, confidence, and character for decades to come.
