The Greater Augusta Arts Council is proud to announce the installation of “School of Fish,” a new public sculpture now located in Sunrise Pond at Phinizy Center for Water Sciences & Nature Park. The ceramics-based work was completed by lead artist Przemyslaw “PK” Kordys of Augusta, Georgia, with assistance from artists at Da Vinci Studios and extensive community participation.

The sculpture features 10 fish, each designed around species that can be found within the ecosystems of Phinizy Swamp. The bodies of the fish are composed of hand-painted ceramic tiles, created by local students and community members through collaborative workshops and outreach efforts with the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, Friedman Branch Library, Wallace Branch Library, and the Richmond County Public Library. Together, the tiles form a vibrant, collective artwork that reflects both the biodiversity of the site and the voices of the surrounding community.

The project was facilitated by the Greater Augusta Arts Council with generous funding from the Georgia Rehabilitation Institute and completed in partnership with Phinizy Center & Nature Park. School of Fish joins a growing series of sculptures installed throughout the park over the past five years and marks Kordys’ second installation at Phinizy, following his earlier work, “Herons,” located at the far edge of Sunrise Pond.
