The Georgia-Carolina Council, Scouting America, proudly honored Donnie Thompson with the Distinguished Citizen Award at its annual Investment in Character Luncheon, recognizing his outstanding commitment to leadership, service, and the values that help shape strong communities and future generations.

The Investment in Character Luncheon brings together business leaders, philanthropists, and community partners who believe that developing character-driven leaders is one of the most important investments a community can make.

Donnie Thompson was selected for the Distinguished Citizen Award in recognition of his lasting impact on youth, families, and the broader CSRA community through his dedication, mentorship, and support of initiatives that create lasting impact for local youth and families.

Andy Jones, owner of Gerald Jones Auto Group and friend, spoke of how Donnie Thompson embodies what Scouting is all about. He said his example of character-driven leadership and commitment to giving back has made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless individuals, and that his leadership reminds us that when we invest in character, we invest in stronger families, a stronger workforce, and a stronger community.

The luncheon featured keynote remarks from Joanna Conley, Chief Executive Officer of Doctors Hospital, who shared her family’s Scouting journey and the lasting influence the program has had on leadership development, resilience, and values. Conley highlighted the role Scouting plays not only in shaping youth, but in strengthening families, organizations, and communities.

Attendees also heard from Lauren and Miles Mazer, who shared Miles’

personal Scouting story and the powerful impact the program has had on his confidence, leadership skills, and sense of purpose. Their story served as a compelling reminder of how Scouting changes lives—and why donor support is essential to sustaining these opportunities for future generations.

Community leaders and supporters are invited to continue the momentum of the luncheon by making a meaningful investment in Scouting.
