Greater Augusta Arts Council and Partners Announce 2026 Storm Drain Mural Schools, Artists, and Down the Drain Exhibition
Thursday, March 19th, 2026
The Greater Augusta Arts Council, in partnership with the City of Augusta, the Richmond County Board of Education, and the Phinizy Center for Water Sciences, announces the 2026 schools and artists participating in the It All Flows into the Savannah Storm Drain Mural Project, along with the accompanying exhibition, Down the Drain, now on view in the City Gallery.
It All Flows into the Savannah is a community-focused public art and environmental education initiative that transforms ordinary storm drains and surrounding sidewalks into vibrant murals designed to raise awareness about stormwater pollution and its impact on local waterways. Through bold imagery and creative messaging, the murals remind residents that everything entering storm drains flows untreated into the Savannah River.
This year’s project brings together local artists, students, teachers, and environmental educators to design and paint murals at schools across Richmond County. The 2026 participating schools include T.W. Josey High School, Belair Elementary School, Pine Hill Middle School, Glenn Hills High School, Belair Middle School, and Jenkins White Elementary School. Selected artists for this year’s project include Nong Von Buedingen, Destinee Love, Aort Reed, Stephanie M. Dunatov, Theron Cartwright, and Emily Bender.
Students also participate in hands-on STEAM workshops that explore how polluted runoff—carrying oil, litter, chemicals, and other contaminants—travels through storm drains directly into local waterways. By combining art and environmental science, the project encourages the community to protect the Savannah River by keeping pollutants out of the stormwater system.
To celebrate the artists involved in this year’s project, the City Gallery is hosting Down the Drain, an exhibition featuring select works by participating muralists. The exhibition is on view March 6 – April 22, 2026, at the City Gallery, located at 535 Telfair Street in the lobby of the Augusta-Richmond County Municipal Building, with a public reception on April 17, 2026, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Artwork on display will be available for purchase.
