Augusta Native Celebrates Book Release of “Pawn Takes Rook” with Hip-Hop Legend Chubb Rock

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, April 8th, 2026

Augusta native Dr. Andre Mountain will celebrate the release of his
new book, Pawn Takes Rook, with a special launch event featuring hip-hop legend Chubb Rock, who also wrote the book’s foreword. Chubb Rock’s syndicated radio program airs in Augusta every afternoon,
making him a familiar voice for the local audience.

The event will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at The Book Tavern, bringing together readers, community leaders, and cultural influencers to celebrate the launch of the highly anticipated book.

A proud graduate of Augusta’s public schools, Dr. Mountain began his professional career in education with the Richmond County School System, where he mentored and supported young people. He later served in leadership roles in Seattle, Washington, before returning to the “original literacy laboratory” of education, the classroom in metro Atlanta.

His experiences in education, leadership, and personal growth inform the themes of Pawn Takes Rook, which explores strategy, resilience, and the challenges of life through the lens of chess.

“Returning home to celebrate this book is an incredible moment,” says Dr. Mountain. “Pawn Takes Rook is about making the right moves in life, even when you start as the underdog. Having Chubb Rock here, someone whose music and influence I’ve admired for years, makes it even more special.”
Guests attending the launch will have the opportunity to meet the author, hear remarks about the inspiration behind the book, purchase signed copies of Pawn Takes Rook, and enjoy a guest appearance by Chubb Rock
