Rotary Aids Camp Tanglewood in Hurricane Recovery
Friday, April 24th, 2026
Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is honored to accept disaster relief funding from Rotary District 6910 to go towards the ongoing repairs of Camp Tanglewood in Augusta.
Rotary’s District 6910 will be presenting $50,000 in disaster relief contributions to Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia at Camp Tanglewood on May 6, 2026 - all members in and around the Central Savannah River Area are invited to join us from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to witness the check presentation, attend guided tours of the camp, and enjoy light refreshments.
In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Camp Tanglewood suffered extensive damages that left the campgrounds in disrepair; while some damage inventory was seen immediately with the crushing of 8 cabins, a bath house, and the challenge course, long term effects from the storm have been felt with the loss of power lines, impacts on sewage lines, and increasing costs of supplies to rebuild.
Thanks to partners like Rotary, we’ve made meaningful progress in restoring camp, these improvements allow us to safely bring girls back to camp experiences at Camp Tanglewood, where we continue to serve as a space for leadership development, outdoor education, and community building.
Some recovery projects have already began on the grounds, attendees can expect to see an addition of 4 cabins and a new bath house, as well as repairs to structures that suffered damages from stores such as the Earnie Graham Cabin and Friendship Hall.
This summer will be the first year that GSHG will be able to host resident and day camp options - be sure to check out the Summer Camp Guide for more information.
