Serenity Behavioral Health Systems New Crisis Stabilization Unit Opens Doors in Augusta

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, April 15th, 2026

Serenity Behavioral Health Systems is excited to announce the grand opening of its brand-new Behavioral Health Crisis Center at 3421 Mike Padgett
Highway in Augusta, Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities provided nearly $15 million in funding to build this brand-new state of the art facility in the CSRA, serving the citizens of East Central Georgia. Behavioral Health Crisis Centers, or BHCC's, are inpatient units that treat and assess individuals who suffer from behavioral health issues or addiction issues that are at a crisis point. Individuals can come voluntarily or be mandated by law to receive admission. The typical length of stay can range from one day to as many as 10 days, with an average stay of 3 to 5 days.

This new facility replaces the 16-bed Crisis Stabilization Unit that has served our community for the past 17 years. The new BHCC will have 24 beds in the Crisis Stabilization Unit, and an additional 16 23-hour temporary observation chairs. This increases capacity to a total of 40 individuals that can receive treatment simultaneously.

"We are beyond thrilled to be opening our new BHCC," said long-time Serenity CEO Chuck Williamson. "The community will benefit incredibly from the assistance this will provide to those who might be in a behavioral health or substance abuse crisis. This facility will also relieve the pressure currently faced by law enforcement, the courts and local healthcare facilities. This is a proud day for Serenity, and we are so grateful to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and Commissioner Kevin Tanner for the support and funding they provided to build the new BHCC."

The new facility was designed by Dickinson Architects of Augusta, and is being built by Allen+Batchelor Construction.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony, provided by the Augusta Chamber of Commerce, will be held on May 13 at 10 AM, at Serenity's main campus at 3421 Mike Padgett Highway in Augusta.
