Augusta Commissioner Raises Concerns on Homelessness

Longtime residents in south Augusta will tell you they never saw it in the area.

“No, none I guess it’s a change with the economy or inflation,” said Karen Pritchett

For years, homelessness was associated with downtown. But now on Tobacco Road and the Windsor Spring, area residents are witnessing homelessness.

Commissioner Lonnie Wimberly brought it forward at this week’s commission meeting, searching for answers.

“They’re camping out in storefronts, they’re camping out in woods, they’re camping out opening near public view,” said Commissioner Lonnie Wimberly.
