The Columbia County Board of Commissioners is proud to announce that Governor Brian Kemp has officially signed House Bill 439 into law, marking a significant milestone in Columbia County’s continued efforts to provide meaningful tax relief for residents with homesteaded property.

House Bill 439 marks a major step forward in Columbia County’s efforts to provide lasting property tax relief for homeowners with homesteaded property. With the Governor’s signature, the County now has the ability to move forward with exploring local options that support homeowner affordability and reduce long-term tax burden on residents. Pending voter approval, this legislation would allow Columbia County to establish a dedicated fund focused specifically on delivering homestead tax relief while continuing to maintain strong financial stewardship and essential county services.

Chairman Doug Duncan stated, “Today, we commend Governor Brian Kemp for signing House Bill 439 into law, providing counties with new flexibility to deliver meaningful homestead tax relief to our residents. This legislation represents an important step toward easing the burden on homeowners while allowing local governments to tailor solutions that best fit the needs of their communities.”

Vice Chair Alison Couch stated, “Today is a great day for Columbia County citizens. State leadership, our delegation, and our commission worked together to provide the vessel needed for homestead property tax relief. We are thankful for the team effort leading up to the Governor’s signature and look forward to this being on the ballot in November.”
