Augusta Agriculture Month 2026 to Honor W.B. & Lynn Brown and Celebrate the Year of the Woman Farmer
Friday, July 10th, 2026
Growing Augusta: Arts, Agriculture & Agency will celebrate Augusta Agriculture Month 2026 throughout the month of August, with a special proclamation and recognition ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2026, during the delegation portion of the Augusta-Richmond County Commission meeting.
This year’s observance will recognize W.B. & Lynn Brown as the 2026 recipients of the Adderson Legacy in Agriculture Award, an annual honor created in partnership with Mayor Garnett L. Johnson to celebrate leadership, mentorship, cultural preservation, and stewardship of the land.
The 2026 theme, “Rooted in Resilience,” also aligns with the United Nations’ designation of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer, highlighting the vital role women play in feeding families, sustaining farms, preserving knowledge, and strengthening communities.
“Augusta Agriculture Month gives us a chance to honor the people whose hands, wisdom, and sacrifice have shaped our local food story,” said Karen Gordon, founder of Growing Augusta. “This year, honoring Lynn Brown alongside W.B. Brown is especially meaningful as we lift up the leadership of women in agriculture.”
The August 4 presentation will include the proclamation declaring August as Agriculture Month in Augusta, recognition of W.B. & Lynn Brown as Legacy Farmers, and presentation of the 2026 Adderson Legacy in Agriculture Award. A brief meet-and-greet reception will follow in the Linda W. Beazley Meeting Room on the first floor of the Augusta Municipal Building.
Throughout August, Growing Augusta will also spotlight local farmers, markets, gardens, and food leaders through the Garden City Grown campaign and related community activities.
