Proposed Augusta Data Center Ordinance has City Leaders Divided

They are here – the first proposed rules for data centers to live by in Augusta.

“Everything in that ordinance protects the citizens. It takes it out of the eyesight, takes it away from the neighborhoods it protects our infrastructure,” said Augusta Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne Guilfoyle.

These proposed guidelines say they can locate only heavy industrial zones. The rules require a 300 foot buffer zone, and sets noise limits to protect neighbors.

But Dr. Gayla Keesee of the League of Women Voters says the new regulations, however, need work.
