Augusta Commissioners Hear Proposal to Help Downtown Businesses Hurt by Construction

It’s not a welcome mat outside Grantski Records on Broad Street – it’s a new orange construction barrier.
The owner says some customers don’t want to deal with it.
“Yeah, I have a few customers who say that they’re having a hard time getting to us they might not return to us for a few months once it’s over,” said Evan Grantski.
Up and down Broad Street, the loss of customers is a concern, the owner of this popcorn store saying the construction has been devastating to her business.
“It’s ruining my business, greater than 50 percent. I could not make rent,” said Shelia Jones of Popn’ Off.
Patricia Geter of the organization West Augusta Six says business owners are reaching out to her looking for help.
