Augusta-Richmond County held its second public meeting Monday night on a proposed ordinance that would set new rules for future data center development.

At the beginning of the meeting, attendees received information outlining the different types of data centers, proposed setback requirements and where certain facilities could be located.

One of the biggest parts of the draft ordinance focuses on how close data centers could be to surrounding properties. The current proposal calls for a 500-foot buffer next to residential, agricultural and environmentally sensitive areas. It also includes smaller setback requirements near commercial and light industrial zoning districts.
