Augusta Utilities is warning residents to verify who is at their door after receiving reports of people claiming to work with the department and asking to test drinking water.

Utilities Director Wes Byne said the department has received about 10 calls over the past two weeks, with many of the reports coming from South Augusta.

“In the most recent two week period, we started getting calls and it’s been about ten,” Byne said. “Mostly kind of South Augusta along Deans Bridge and then in the Elderberry subdivision towards the end of last week.”

Byne said the number of calls became repetitive enough that the department decided residents needed to be warned.
