It has been nearly 2 years since Hurricane Helene slammed into the CSRA. The storm left behind unprecedented devastation in our area, and some recovery efforts are still ongoing.

No one expected the destruction Hurricane Helene left behind. Now, tens of millions of dollars and thousands of man hours later, Columbia County leaders say they are down to their last projects.

“And frankly, it’s not the easiest thing to talk about and to go back into time. And the other, frankly, is I don’t remember a lot of it because we were in such a mode of operations,” said Shawn Granato, Director of EMS in Columbia County.

With a swath of wind gusts over 100 mph, the storm brought down hundreds of thousands of trees, destroying homes, businesses and infrastructure.
