The 3rd Friday in September is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Fort Gordon held its annual ceremony to honor and remember prisoners of war and those missing in action.

Fort Gordon Garrison Commander Col. Nancy K. Harris spoke at the event. She said there are thousands still missing in action and unaccounted for since World War II. She also talked about how the national day impacts the area locally.

“Understand why we memorialize and honor those that are here and where they live in our local community. Because I think it’s something that it’s referred to in a history book, but it actually matters to our local community.”
